Why Balloons Rise cover

Why Balloons Rise & Apples Fall

by Author Jeff Stewart

My amusing popular science book, Why Balloons Rise & Apples Fall, has been published in the UK and eight other countries, including the USA. The UK hardback was published in 2010; the latest paperback edition in 2017.

Reviewer Ken Powell gave the book four stars and said: “Jeff Stewart is as funny as he is well informed.” He added: “Dealing with the laws of Physics, Stewart covers much of the ground needed for GCSE science and not a small amount of the principles required for at least the ‘bigger picture’ ideas encountered with A level Physics... This is certainly a book I will dip into from time to time...”

My first FREE sci fi short story is out now!

I’m writing SF under my pen name J. A. Sieffre. My first story is out now. It’s called ‘Melodies of the Infinite’.

Melodies of the Infinite tells the tale of a girl who thinks her spaceship’s AI should love music. She thinks the right song will blow the AI’s mind. The trouble is, she might be right.

This is character-driven science fiction. It’s a bit like Martha Wells’s Murderbot, or a cross between Becky Chambers and Adrian Tchaikovsky. The stories are set on a dilapidated spaceship that has been travelling for more than a thousand years.
